A Brief Biography

Mohsin Hamid is a successful writer originally from Lahore, Pakistan. Growing up in both Pakistan and the United States, he went on to attend Princeton University and Harvard Law School before 1997. Hamid began his career in writing by taking three months off a year to focus on his first novel, Moth Smoke. Now he has four novels published: Moth Smoke, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Exit West and How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia. Along with his published novels, he also has a book of published essays commenting on life experiences called Discontent and Its Civilizations: Dispatches from Lahore, New York, and London as well as a series of short stories. Being an avid traveler today and in his childhood Mohsin Hamid uses his different perspectives and life experiences within his works to create a deeper understanding for all of his readers. Such as The Reluctant Fundamentalist commenting on life post 9/11. This particular novel explores life in the United States for a young Pakistani man. After the events of 9/11 the American mindset changes and the main character feels a pressure to act a certain way like never before, obviously effecting him greatly. This psychological novel went on to win many awards as well as making the shortlist for the Booker Prize (pictured below) and even being performed by companies such as the National Youth Theater and evuntally produced into film. Today, Hamid is married and has both a daughter and a son. His family continues to travel around the world living in the Unite Kingdom, Unites States, and Pakistan.
